Nice star Todibo open to Barcelona return

Jean-Clair Todibo, a highly-rated 24-year-old central defender, has emerged as a hot property on the transfer market. The Cayenne-born player could leave Nice this summer despite having a contract until 2027. When asked by a Canal+ journalist after the 0-0 draw against Clermont whether a return to Barcelona was possible, Todibo did not rule it out.

“A return to Barcelona? Why not?” said the French international (2 caps), before reflecting on his time at the Blaugrana between January 2019 and July 2021. “I don’t regret it at all, not at all. FC Barcelona was a great experience. I learned a lot from Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Clement Lenglet… It did me good. I discovered the very, very high level. I didn’t get the playing time I wanted because there were very, very great players ahead of me,” Todibo explained.

Todibo joined Barcelona in January 2019 from Toulouse but struggled to break into the first team, making only five appearances in all competitions. He was loaned out to Schalke 04 and Benfica before joining Nice permanently in 2021.

The Frenchman has impressed at Nice, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in Ligue 1. He has made 47 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

Todibo’s performances have attracted the attention of several top clubs, including Barcelona. The Blaugrana are looking to strengthen their defense this summer and could make a move for their former player.

Todibo is open to a return to Barcelona but would only consider it if he was guaranteed regular playing time. He is still young and ambitious and wants to play at the highest level.

A return to Barcelona would be a good move for Todibo. He would have the chance to learn from some of the best defenders in the world and compete for trophies. It would also be a chance for him to prove that he can be a success at the Camp Nou.
