Match Preview: Lens and Monaco in must-win clash for European hopes

Lens and Monaco will be looking to boost their European hopes when they meet in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

Lens are currently in sixth place, two points behind Monaco, but they have a game in hand. They are unbeaten in the league since Franck Haise took over as manager, but they have not won against any of the teams above them in the table.

Monaco are in fifth place, but they have only won one of their last five league games. They were also eliminated from the Coupe de France by third-tier side FC Rouen.

The match could be crucial for Monaco coach Adi Hütter, who is under pressure to turn things around. He will be hoping that his team can build on their last away win, a 3-2 victory at Nice.

Key players:

Wesley Saïd has scored five goals in Ligue 1 this season, and three of his last four goals have been the opening goal for Lens at home.

Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder is back from suspension and has scored four goals in his last six appearances against Lens.

Hot stat:

There have been over 2.5 goals in each of the last six meetings between the two teams, and 15 of Monaco’s 22 Ligue 1 games this season have had at least three goals. This is the joint-highest total in the league.

This is a tough match to call, but I think Lens will have the edge playing at home. I’m going for a 2-1 win for Lens.
