LaLiga: Barça blast back into top two with dominant Getafe win

Barcelona’s recent resurgence took another leap forward with a thumping 4-0 victory over Getafe, propelling them into provisional second place in La Liga. This marks their fourth win in five league games, putting the pressure firmly on Girona before their upcoming match.

Xavi’s men were looking to build on their improved form and knew a win would crank up the heat on the league leaders. After conceding in their midweek 1-1 draw against Napoli, a clean sheet against struggling Getafe would have been ideal, but ultimately, the goals were the priority.

As expected, Barça dominated possession from the start, controlling most of the game but initially failing to seriously threaten Getafe’s goalkeeper, David Soria. However, the wait for a breakthrough only lasted until the 20th minute. Jules Koundé sent Raphinha through on goal, and the Brazilian, making his first start in over a month after injury, coolly slotted the ball home.

Barça continued to dictate the tempo throughout the first half, but Getafe had their own chances. Borja Mayoral was denied by Marc-André ter Stegen, keeping Xavi’s men ahead at the break.

The Catalans came out firing after the restart, doubling their lead within 10 minutes. Raphinha, enjoying a stellar performance, played in Anders Christensen, who selflessly squared to João Felix for a tap-in. Raphinha’s influence continued as he raced through, rounded Soria, and set up Frenkie de Jong for his first goal since August.

With a comfortable three-goal lead, Barça cruised through the final half-hour, facing minimal threat from a dispirited Getafe. Fermín Lopez added a late flourish with a fourth goal in stoppage time, condemning the Azulones to their sixth straight away defeat against Barcelona.

This dominant victory puts Barça in second place, ahead of Girona’s upcoming match. Their recent positive run has reignited a faint hope of retaining their La Liga title, and they’ll be eager to keep the momentum going.

Man of the Match: Raphinha (Barcelona)
