Atletico Madrid: Griezmann sidelined with ankle sprain

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann will be sidelined for an unspecified period of time after suffering a “moderate ankle sprain” in the Champions League clash against Inter Milan.

Griezmann was forced off the field in the 78th minute of the match after receiving a knock to his right ankle. He tried to continue playing, but was unable to do so and was replaced by Angel Correa.

The French international underwent tests on Wednesday which confirmed the extent of the injury. Atletico Madrid have not released a specific timeframe for Griezmann’s return, but he is expected to miss at least the next few games.

Griezmann’s injury is a blow to Atletico Madrid, who are currently in the midst of a busy schedule. The Spanish club are competing in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.

In Griezmann’s absence, Atletico Madrid will likely turn to Matheus Cunha, Angel Correa, and Joao Felix to fill the void in attack. The club will also be hoping that Luis Suarez can return to action soon after recovering from a knee injury.

Griezmann’s injury is a reminder of the importance of squad depth in modern football. Atletico Madrid will need to rely on their other players to step up in his absence if they are to maintain their challenge for trophies on all fronts.
