Xavi Simons set for PSG first-team push after impressive loan spell

Paris Saint-Germain are ready to unleash the potential of Dutch wonderkid Xavi Simons, bringing him back to the first team next season.

Simons, once considered one of the world’s brightest prospects, had joined PSV Eindhoven in search of playing time, where he exploded with 22 goals and 12 assists. PSG then reacquired him, but sent him on another loan to RB Leipzig for further development.

He hasn’t missed a beat in Germany, racking up 8 goals and 9 assists in 31 games, solidifying his reputation. Despite Leipzig’s hopes for a longer stay, PSG are calling him back for the 2024-25 season, according to Fichajes.

With Kylian Mbappé’s likely departure, Simons is seen as a ready-made option for the attacking line. While PSG will target big names with the saved Mbappé money, Simons offers a homegrown alternative with his contract running until 2027.

Though technically not a “homegrown player” due to his Barcelona academy years before joining PSG in 2019, Simons fits the club’s new push for more youth integration into the first team.

This is a clear shift for the young midfielder, who has only 11 appearances for PSG (all before his PSV move), totaling 129 minutes in Ligue 1. Now, he’s poised for regular playing time on a bigger stage.

The decision reflects PSG’s changing strategy, balancing big-money signings with promoting talented youngsters like Simons, who has proven himself ready for the big leagues. It will be exciting to see if he can live up to his early promise on a bigger stage next season.
