With Kylian Mbappé’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain confirmed, the race for his successor is officially underway. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is high on the list of potential replacements for the French superstar.
Osimhen’s €130 million release clause, which must be paid in a single installment, does not seem to be a deterrent for PSG. The 24-year-old is the highest-paid player in Napoli’s history, earning €10 million net per season, but that figure would be easily dwarfed by PSG’s financial might.
However, Osimhen’s desire to play in the Premier League could be a stumbling block for PSG. The English top flight has always been his dream destination, and he has no shortage of suitors there.
Osimhen’s impressive goalscoring record and physical attributes make him an ideal candidate to fill Mbappé’s shoes. He has scored 38 goals in 76 appearances for Napoli since joining from Lille in 2020. He is also a strong and athletic player who is capable of making dangerous runs in behind the defense.
It remains to be seen whether PSG will be able to convince Osimhen to join them ahead of a move to the Premier League. However, there is no doubt that he is one of the most talented young strikers in the world, and he would be a major signing for any club.
