Ligue 1: Mbappé stars off the bench despite transfer rumors as PSG cruise past Nantes

Kylian Mbappé, amidst swirling transfer rumors, proved he’s still PSG’s talisman by scoring a late penalty to seal a routine 2-0 win over Nantes and extend their league lead to a whopping 14 points.

The Frenchman, reportedly unhappy and seeking a summer exit, started on the bench, but made a decisive impact after coming on late. The win keeps PSG on cruise control for the Ligue 1 title, despite a shaky first half against a determined Nantes side.

PSG dominated possession but lacked their usual spark. Nantes’ stand-in goalie, Rémy Descamps, looked shaky, fumbling corners and barely dealing with early pressure from Mbappé’s former teammate, Randal Kolo Muani.

Nantes nearly took the lead against the run of play when Lucas Hernández intervened brilliantly to deny Douglas Augusto. Gianluigi Donnarumma made crucial saves too, denying Mostafa Mohamed and Nicolas Cozza to keep the scores level at halftime.

The introduction of Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé, and Achraf Hakimi in the second half finally unlocked the Nantes defense. A deflected Lucas Hernández shot broke the deadlock, putting PSG on course for victory.

Mbappé then made his mark, winning and coolly converting a penalty to seal the three points. Nantes refused to go down without a fight, with captain Pedro Chirivella rattling the woodwork. But ultimately, PSG’s quality shone through.
