Paris Saint-Germain are determined to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer. Following the confirmed departure of their star player Kylian Mbappé, the Parisian club is looking to strengthen their squad with high-level players to maintain their competitive edge. According to planetepsg, in addition to Gavi, one of their main targets is Frenkie de Jong.
In 2019, the French club was one of Barcelona’s main competitors for De Jong’s services, but the Catalan club won the battle and signed him.
Five years later, and taking advantage of the fact that the Dutch international is open to listening to offers, PSG is determined to try again to sign Frenkie de Jong. As reported by MD, Barcelona presented De Jong with an offer three weeks ago, but the player has not yet responded to the proposal. The Catalan club maintains that in order to stay, De Jong must accept a salary reduction in line with the team’s new salary structure. Otherwise, they will open the door to his departure, as long as he presents the club with an offer of €100 million.
With the money that PSG will save on Mbappé’s salary, the club led by Nasser Al-Khelaifi will be able to afford De Jong’s signing and pay his current salary at Barcelona without any problems. It remains to be seen whether De Jong, if he decides to leave, will choose to play for PSG or prefers to move to the Premier League, where Tottenham have already shown interest in him, as well as Manchester United – who tempted him two years ago – and Chelsea.
