Olympique Lyonnais continued their impressive run with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over OGC Nice, extending their winning streak to six in the last eight Ligue 1 matches. In contrast, Nice’s promising start to the season hit a bump as they suffered their first consecutive league losses.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Lyon, however. Early on, Nice pressed hard, with Mohamed-Ali Cho showcasing his flair with a spectacular chipped effort that agonizingly rattled the post. Morgan Sanson and Evann Guessand also threatened, forcing Anthony Lopes into sharp saves.
But just as the Nice storm seemed to be brewing, Lyon struck back. Ernest Nuamah, a constant thorn in Nice’s side, whipped in a cross that found Orel Mangala’s head, sending the ball into the net for his first goal for the club. This gave Lyon the confidence to push forward, with Maxence Caqueret and Nuamah both coming close to adding to the lead.
The second half saw more of the same, with Nuamah and Saïd Benrahma keeping the Nice defense on their toes. The introduction of Terem Moffi added some bite to Nice’s attack, but Pablo Rosario’s header narrowly missed the target, summing up their frustrating night.
Lopes made some crucial saves in the closing stages, particularly against the lively Jeremie Boga, to secure the win for Lyon. This result sees them consolidate their position in the top half of the table, while Nice face the possibility of dropping out of the top four as they continue their worrying trend of failing to pick up points after conceding first.
Man of the Match: Ernest Nuamah’s tireless work ethic and pinpoint crosses earned him the Flashscore Man of the Match award, proving a constant threat to the Nice defense throughout the game.
