Serie A: Theo Hernandez stuns Napoli as Milan extend unbeaten run

AC Milan edged closer to the Serie A title race with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Napoli, extending their unbeaten streak to nine games.

Stefano Pioli, celebrating his 220th game in charge, saw his side almost concede early on. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia danced past Matteo Gabbia and set up Giovanni Simeone, but his shot narrowly missed the target.

Milan soon woke up, though, and scored a goal that would have impressed even the legendary Arrigo Sacchi. Rafael Leão’s exquisite chipped pass found Theo Hernandez, who blasted a clinical finish past Pierluigi Gollini. Milan were buzzing, with Leão forcing a fine save from Gollini. Davide Calabria’s injury was a slight concern, but Pioli’s men remained in control.

Gollini nearly gifted Milan a second after the break, fumbling Alessandro Florenzi’s shot. Thankfully, he recovered before Olivier Giroud could pounce. The game was frantic, with Napoli substitute Matteo Politano and Simeone threatening equalizers. Politano came even closer with a curling shot that went inches wide.

Milan relied on Leão for another goal, but the Portuguese winger couldn’t convert Yunus Musah’s pass. The hosts were under pressure late on, as Jesper Lindstrøm’s cross hit the post via Jan-Carlo Simić. However, Milan held on for a vital three points, ending Napoli’s impressive eight-game unbeaten away run against them.

Man of the Match: Theo Hernandez’s clinical finish proved the difference, earning him the Flashscore award.
