The Spanish international was forced off the field just before half-time in Sunday’s La Liga clash, and images of his distress have been widely shared on social media.

Morata consoled on the bench
On the bench, Morata was visibly distraught as medics examined his knee. His departure will be a major concern for Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, who was present at the stadium.
The injury comes at a crucial time for Atletico Madrid, who are facing a number of important fixtures in the Champions League and Copa del Rey. Morata, the team’s starting number 9, could miss these matches, which would be a major blow to the team’s hopes of success.
Fans and pundits have expressed their concern for Morata on social media, with many wishing him a speedy recovery.
