Paris Saint-Germain vs Lille Preview: Can Lille Stop the PSG juggernaut?

Paris Saint-Germain and Lille will both be looking to bounce back from midweek Coupe de France results when they meet in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

PSG cruised to a 3-1 victory over Brest, extending their unbeaten run in all competitions to 15 games (11 wins, 4 draws). The Parisians have scored at least two goals in 12 of those matches, which is ominous for Lille, who have conceded at least four in three of their last four meetings with PSG.

Lille, meanwhile, lost 2-1 at Lyon, ending their unbeaten start to 2024 (4 wins, 1 draw). However, they have the second-best defense in Ligue 1 (14 goals conceded), so they will be confident of keeping out the champions’ in-form attack.

Lille will need to improve their away form if they are to have any chance of claiming a top-four finish. They have won just four of their 16 away games in all competitions this season (9 draws, 3 defeats). Their record at the Parc des Princes is even worse, with nine defeats in their last 10 visits.

Key Players:

  • Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty in the reverse fixture and has 30 goals in 29 appearances this season.
  • Lille’s Jonathan David also scored in that game, but he has failed to score in any of his last eight away appearances!

Hot stat: PSG (12) and Lille (11) are first and second respectively for the most goals scored in Ligue 1 in the 15 minutes before half-time.

PSG are clear favorites to win this match. They are in excellent form and have a strong home record. Lille have a good defense, but they will struggle to keep out the Parisians’ attack.

I predict a 2-0 win for PSG.
