AS Roma are showing signs of life under new boss Daniele De Rossi, cruising to a convincing 4-0 victory against struggling Cagliari on Saturday. The Giallorossi have now won all three games since the former midfielder took the reins from José Mourinho, igniting hope for a European push.
It took just over a minute for Roma to assert their dominance as Lorenzo Pellegrini tapped home from close range after a corner. The home side continued to dictate the tempo, with Paulo Dybala doubling the lead midway through the half thanks to a well-worked team goal and clever assist from Romelu Lukaku.
Cagliari, winless on the road in Serie A for 16 games, offered little resistance initially. However, they started to find their footing later in the half, with Andre Petagna missing a couple of chances and Gianluca Lapadula having a penalty claim overturned via VAR.
The second half saw Dybala convert a penalty after Petagna handled a flick-on in the box, before teenage defender Dean Huijsen rose highest to head home his first Roma goal from a Leandro Paredes corner.
Roma remained hungry for more, with Dybala and Lukaku narrowly missing chances to extend the lead. The win sees them climb to fifth in the table and extend their unbeaten run against Cagliari to nine games, while the Sardinians drop back into the relegation zone after their heaviest defeat of the season.
