While French sports daily Le Parisien reported on Tuesday that Kylian Mbappé has made the decision to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, the 25-year-old has yet to make an official announcement. This has left Los Blancos with a sense of caution.
According to journalist Fred Hermel, who specializes in Spanish football, Real Madrid is confident but still scarred by the turnaround that took place in May 2022, when the Paris Saint-Germain forward ultimately decided to extend his contract with the French club.
“We don’t want to get too excited, Real Madrid is not going to jump the gun, that’s for sure,” Hermel told RMC. “Real Madrid is waiting for Mbappé to officially announce his decision and talk to PSG. Then they will discuss whether Mbappé wants to come to Real Madrid. There is a lot of calmness on the Real Madrid side. We don’t want to be too pushy right away and have Mbappé change his mind at the last minute and make us look ridiculous again.”
The French international could announce his decision as early as next week.
