Bayer Leverkusen have found their replacement for Victor Boniface. In search of a new striker after their Nigerian forward suffered a serious injury, the Bundesliga leaders confirmed the arrival of Spanish international Borja Iglesias on Saturday. The 31-year-old striker has joined on loan until the end of the season.
“Welcome to Borja Iglesias!” the club’s statement read. “With the injury to forward Victor Boniface, Bayer Leverkusen have signed Spanish striker Borja Iglesias. The 31-year-old former Spain international joins Werkself on loan until the end of the current 2023/24 season.”
Iglesias, who has won the Copa del Rey with Betis, is a proven goalscorer in La Liga. He has scored 78 goals in 224 appearances for the Seville club, including 20 goals in 2021/22.
The Spaniard is expected to provide a much-needed boost to Leverkusen’s attack. The team have struggled to score goals in recent weeks, and they are currently third in the Bundesliga table, 10 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
“I’m excited to join Bayer Leverkusen,” Iglesias said. “It’s a great club with a lot of ambition. I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve their goals.”
Borja Iglesias wird mit der Rückennummer 9 auflaufen.
