Match Preview: Marseille and Monaco set to clash in crucial Ligue 1 match

Marseille will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches when they host Monaco at the Stade Vélodrome on Saturday night.

With just five points separating the two teams, a win for the hosts would be a major boost in their quest to finish in the top five for the eighth consecutive season.

Before this weekend, Marseille were one of only two teams in Ligue 1 to be unbeaten at home this season, and they will be desperate to keep that run going. Their strong home form is built on a solid defense that has conceded just three goals in nine matches at the Vélodrome.

However, that defense could be tested by a Monaco attack that has scored two goals in each of its last three away matches. The Ligue 1 leaders have won their last two away matches 2-1, and they are looking for their first three-match winning streak on the road since October 2022.

Monaco have a good record at Marseille in recent years, with just one defeat in their last eight meetings. Coach Adi Hütter will be hoping that his side can continue that run and get back on track after losing three of their last six matches.

Key battle: Marseille captain and central defender Samuel Gigot scored his second goal of the season in the last home match against Monaco. He will be up against Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder, who is in red-hot form with seven goals in his last four matches.

Hot stat: Monaco have conceded a goal in the 85th minute or later in three of their last four Ligue 1 matches.
