Serbian midfielder set for second French move in as many seasons.
Nemanja Matic is on the move again, just six months after leaving Roma. According to RMC Sport, the Serbian midfielder is set to join Lyon, following his recent fallout with Rennes, who signed him from Roma for a minimal fee last summer.
Matic’s sudden departure from Roma caused a stir in the Italian capital, leaving former Giallorossi boss José Mourinho baffled and the club scrambling to find a replacement at short notice. Roma eventually signed Leandro Paredes to replace Matic.
Lyon are one of France’s biggest and most successful clubs, but they have endured a terrible 2023-24 campaign and currently sit 16th in Ligue 1. If they finish the season in 16th place, Lyon will be forced to play a relegation playoff, and if they drop any lower, they will automatically be relegated to Ligue 2.
