Match Preview: Frankfurt looking to bounce back against Mainz

Eintracht Frankfurt will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 2-2 draw with Darmstadt last weekend when they host Mainz on Friday. The Eagles surrendered a 2-0 lead in the final minutes of that match, and sporting director Markus Krösche described their performance as “naive”.

Despite that setback, Frankfurt will be confident of picking up a win at home. They have won their last two Bundesliga matches at the Deutsche Bank Park, including a 5-1 thrashing of Bayern Munich. The Eagles also have a strong home record against Mainz, having won three of their last four meetings at home.

Mainz, on the other hand, are in poor form and are fighting against relegation. They have gone seven matches without a win, and have drawn their last six away matches. Coach Jan Siewert has been criticized for his cautious tactics, and the team’s second-worst attack in the league (14 goals) is a major concern.

The players to watch include Ansgar Knauff for Frankfurt, who has scored in his last two matches, and Anthony Caci for Mainz, who has scored two goals this season but has not won any of the matches he has scored in.

Hot stat: Frankfurt have kept a clean sheet in each of their last six wins against Mainz.
