Less than a year after taking over from Julian Nagelsmann in March, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is already on the hot seat. Between internal tensions and the arrival of Max Eberl as sporting director, the German coach’s future is uncertain.
According to the Sports Zone media outlet, the new Bavarian leader is in favor of firing the former Paris Saint-Germain coach, at the latest by the end of the season. A dismissal that could even take place “in the very short term” as relations between Tuchel and his hierarchy are said to be so strained.
There are multiple reasons for these tensions. First, Tuchel is said to be having trouble imposing his vision of the game on the Bavarian dressing room. Second, he is said to have disagreements with Eberl, who has reportedly criticized his management style. Third, Bayern Munich is not having the season it hoped for, with an elimination from the Champions League in the quarter-finals.
If Tuchel is indeed sacked, he will join the long list of coaches who have failed to make it at Bayern Munich. Indeed, since Jupp Heynckes retired in 2018, the Bavarian club has changed coaches four times.
It remains to be seen if Tuchel will have time to bounce back elsewhere. At 48 years old, he is still an experienced and respected coach, but he will need to find a club that will give him the means to succeed.
