Real Madrid has its eyes on Nico Williams after his breakout performance against Barcelona

Nico Williams put on a show on Tuesday night, scoring a goal and assisting on another in Athletic Bilbao’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona. The Spanish winger was the best player on the pitch, and his performance did not go unnoticed by Real Madrid.

“He has everything it takes to succeed at Real Madrid,” said a Madrid executive. “He’s young, he’s Spanish, he’s talented, and he wants to play for us.”

Williams, who is from Bilbao, is a homegrown product of Athletic’s youth academy. He made his first-team debut in 2020, and he has quickly become a fixture in the starting lineup. This season, he has already scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists in 25 appearances.

Real Madrid is not the only club interested in Williams. Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Juventus are also in the mix. But the Merengues have a clear advantage: Williams has always dreamed of playing for the club from the capital.

“It would be a dream to play for Real Madrid,” Williams said a few months ago. “It’s the biggest club in the world.”

Real Madrid will not rush to sign Williams. The club wants to see how he develops over the next few seasons. But if Williams continues to improve, it’s highly likely he will one day wear the white shirt.
