PSG are still pursuing some big names, but Luis Campos could be about to activate a more surprising target in defense.
With just a week to go until the January transfer window closes, PSG have yet to make any major signings beyond Lucas Beraldo and Gabriel Moscardo, who is set to join Corinthians on a loan deal until he recovers from an operation. The club is still looking for a midfielder and a center-back, and could also be in the market for a full-back if Nordi Mukiele leaves.
In its latest edition, L’Equipe provides an update on the situation. In midfield, there are few concrete rumors beyond an interest in Joshua Kimmich, who would be a more realistic target in the summer. In defense, Leny Yoro remains the dream, but Lille president Olivier Létang has reiterated that the club will not sell the defender this winter, even for an offer of over €50 million. This could lead PSG to look elsewhere, with L’Equipe reporting that they are also interested in Lucas Martinez Quarta, a 27-year-old Argentinian defender for Fiorentina.
The report adds that Quarta would be a “surprise” target for PSG, but that he would be a good fit for the club’s style of play. He is a strong and athletic defender who is also good on the ball. He would provide competition for Presnel Kimpembe and Marquinhos in the center of defense.
It remains to be seen whether PSG will be able to land Quarta, but he would be a good addition to their squad.
