Real Madrid: Vinicius Junior in hot water for elbowing

Vinicius Emerges as the Penalty Taker: Stepping into the Role of Benzema

Vinicius Junior could be in for a hefty punishment after a nasty elbowing incident in Real Madrid’s recent match against Almeria.

The Brazilian winger caught the Almeria player in the face during a challenge in the air. The incident went unnoticed by the referee, but it was caught on camera by fans.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Vinicius Junior could be suspended for four games if Almeria decides to file a complaint. The Andalusian club has until Thursday to do so.

If the complaint is filed, the Spanish Football League’s Competition Committee will have to rule on the matter. Article 22 of the league’s disciplinary regulations states that the committee can initiate a procedure at the request of the player, the request of the Superior Sports Council, or on its own initiative. In this case, it would be Almeria’s complaint that would trigger the process.

If the complaint is successful and the action is deemed to be an assault, Article 103 of the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Code states that a minimum suspension of four games is required for this type of behavior. This is a rare punishment in professional football, but it is possible.

Vinicius Junior is a key player for Real Madrid, so a four-game suspension would be a major blow to the team. He will need to be careful to avoid any further incidents if he wants to avoid a more severe punishment.
