Bayern Munich is looking to strengthen its defense in the coming months, and the German club has made a big offer for its top target.
Thomas Tuchel has been having a tough time at Bayern Munich since he arrived in March 2023. The German coach has already experienced some disappointments, including eliminations from the German Cup and the Champions League. His team also had to fight until the last day to win the Bundesliga title last season.
This summer, the former PSG coach didn’t get all the players he wanted in the transfer window, as his club failed to complete the signing of João Palhinha (Fulham) in time. This season, he has already missed one of the club’s objectives, as his team was eliminated from the German Cup.
On Sunday, he experienced another disappointment as Bayern Munich lost 1-0 to Werder Bremen in the league. This doesn’t bode well for the Bavarians, who are now behind Bayer Leverkusen in the table. While Tuchel is not yet in danger of being sacked, he knows that his credit is running out. Especially since the German leaders appreciate Xabi Alonso a lot.
To get his team back on track, the German coach is counting on the transfer market. This winter, he would like to strengthen his defense, despite the arrival of the versatile Eric Dier. For the right-back position, Nordi Mukiele (PSG) is targeted. Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), deemed a bit too expensive, is a plan B. For the central defense, TT has an idea in mind. Not convinced by Matthijs de Ligt, who is injured, he is very interested in Ronald Araujo, rather for the summer of 2024.
But Barcelona, which has made him one of its leaders and untouchables, is closing the door for now.
Asked yesterday by Movistar, Barcelona sporting director Deco said: “Bayern wants Ronald Araujo? We are not considering selling him. He is not for sale because he is one of the key players for the future of Barcelona. He has a long contract and we are not considering selling him. He shows every day that he is happy here. There is nothing to say.”
However, Bild has something to say about the matter on Tuesday. The German media reports that Bayern Munich has made a first offer of €75 million for the player who is under contract until June 2026. The club plans to come back to the charge in case of refusal from Barcelona. The beginning of a long soap opera.
