Girona put on a masterclass at Estadi Montilivi, thrashing Sevilla 5-1 thanks to a stunning hat-trick from Artem Dovbyk. The Ukrainian striker, fresh off a brace in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey win, turned on the afterburners after Sevilla’s Isaac Romero had opened the scoring early on.
Dovbyk’s first goal was a textbook header from Sávio’s cross, and he didn’t waste any time adding a second, coolly slotting past Marko Dmitrović to put the hosts ahead. Unstoppable in the moment, he completed his hat-trick with a fierce shot from the edge of the box, leaving Sevilla reeling.
Girona were relentless, peppering Dmitrović’s goal with shots before the break. Portu nearly added a fourth, his strike rattling the crossbar in a breathtaking first half.
Sevilla, still shell-shocked, could only watch as Girona continued to dominate after the restart. Viktor Tsygankov tucked away Sávio’s low cross to make it 4-0, and Djibril Sow was only denied a consolation goal by a superb Paulo Gazzaniga save.
Just when you thought the scoring was done, Girona legend Cristhian Stuani popped up in stoppage time to add a fifth, the icing on the cake of a ruthless performance.
This win sends Girona back to the top of La Liga, while Sevilla find themselves just one point above the relegation zone. Dovbyk, meanwhile, walks away with the Flashscore Man of the Match award after a night he’ll never forget.
