Nice in advanced talks to sign Valentin Rosier

OGC Nice is looking to make a move for Valentin Rosier, who has been frozen out of the Besiktas squad for several weeks. The 27-year-old right-back, who came through the ranks at Dijon, has been with the Istanbul club for over three years and has a wealth of top-level experience.

“It is announced that Vincent Aboubakar, Valentin Rosier, Eric Bailly, Rachid Ghezzal and Jean Onana have been excluded from the squad due to poor performances and incompatibilities within the team.” The Besiktas announcement over a month ago came as a bombshell in Turkey. In the meantime, Eric Bailly has joined Villarreal while Jean Onana has been loaned to Marseille. Vincent Aboubakar, Rachid Ghezzal and Valentin Rosier remain, but the latter is more than likely to leave in the coming days.

The Dijon-trained right-back, who is now 27, has been with the Istanbul club for over three years. After over a hundred games in the Super Lig for three goals and 15 assists, plus some European Cup matches, Rosier has been clearly frozen out by Besiktas, as his last match was on November 26. With his contract expiring in June 2025, the Montauban native is more than ever on the move.

Nice wants to pounce on the Rosier opportunity

He could well, like Jean Onana, return to Ligue 1. According to our information, he is in advanced talks with OGC Nice. With Jordan Lotomba as the club’s only specialist at the position, and with Youcef Atal suspended for a long period and also in Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations, the Riviera club could see the arrival of an experienced player to strengthen the right flank of their defence as a good thing.

The terms of the operation remain to be seen, as the Turkish club will not be giving anything away to Nice. However, the prospect of including Atal in the deal could be something that Besiktas is willing to consider in order to get their man. Valentin Rosier, whose name has been mentioned in France for several transfer windows, could finally make his return to Ligue 1, and to the current third-placed team in the French league.
