Vinicius the victim of Messi’s success

Vinicius Junior, the breakout star of Real Madrid, was the target of a brutal attack from Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender.

The reason? The debate over the composition of the TOTY (Team Of The Year) for the EA FC 24 game. Carragher and Gary Neville, two other English football legends, clashed over who should be the third attacker to join Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé.

Carragher, who was defending Lionel Messi, argued that Vinicius did not deserve to be in the team. “Messi is the best player in the world,” he said. “He won the World Cup a week before 2023, and he wouldn’t be in the starting 11? That’s ridiculous.”

Neville, who was supporting Vinicius, countered by pointing to the Brazilian’s statistics. “He scored 18 goals and provided 17 assists in 44 games,” he reminded Carragher. “That’s an incredible record.”

But Carragher was not impressed. “He scored his goals in a clown league,” he said. “Real Madrid didn’t even win La Liga.”

It was a brutal attack that left Vinicius wounded. The young Brazilian, who had a sensational season, was collateral damage in a debate that was mostly about Messi.
