Real Madrid: Rüdiger pinches Morata's nipple and faces a hefty fine

As often is the case, the derby between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid was particularly heated during the Spanish Super Cup semi-final.

A derby that ignites passions! Yesterday, Real Madrid faced Atlético Madrid in the first semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. And after a thrilling match, in which Antoine Griezmann became the all-time top scorer for the Colchoneros ahead of Luis Aragones, it was ultimately the White House who won 5-3. Carlo Ancelotti’s men will face either Barcelona or Osasuna this weekend, who will face each other tonight.

Rüdiger criticized

But the match could have been very different, as Antonio Rüdiger could have seen his time on the pitch cut short. Indeed, the cameras captured a scene that was not broadcast at the time and that is causing a lot of talk in Spain. We can see the German defender in contact with the Spanish striker Álvaro Morata… pinching his nipple! A scene that went unnoticed and that could have earned a sanction for the boss of the Madrid defense. In the meantime, it is this morning’s headline on the other side of the Pyrenees. Note that the disciplinary committee could well take up this matter to sanction him. For the record, it was Rüdiger who had relaunched Real Madrid early in the match by equalizing after Mario Hermoso’s opening goal.

Analysis

The incident in question occurred in the 24th minute of the match, when Rüdiger and Morata were contesting a header. The German defender can be seen grabbing Morata’s nipple and squeezing it for a few seconds. The incident went unnoticed by the referee and the linesmen, but it was caught on camera and has since gone viral.

The Spanish press has been critical of Rüdiger’s actions, with some calling them “unsportsmanlike” and “disgusting.” The defender has since apologized for the incident, saying that he did not mean to hurt Morata.

It remains to be seen whether Rüdiger will be punished for the incident. The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee could decide to issue a fine or even a ban.
