The Basque club could sign a Paris Saint-Germain player just weeks before their Champions League clash.
Real Sociedad will face PSG in the Champions League round of 16. It is an unprecedented clash, but also, an apparently more than affordable draw for Luis Enrique’s team, who drew the least experienced team at this level among those in the top hat. Especially since the Basque formation is currently going through a clear period of turbulence and is struggling to string together good results. Will it be the same in February? We’ll know soon…
In the meantime, the daily AS reveals a rather surprising piece of information. Indeed, Real Sociedad has just parted ways with Mohamed Ali-Cho, who has returned to France to relaunch his career with OGC Nice. The club from northern Spain has therefore set out to find a replacement. The Basques should also have a relatively significant envelope to replace the French hope, who was not really in the plans of coach Imanol Alguacil.
A return to La Liga to relaunch?
According to the Spanish newspaper, the club from San Sebastián is thinking, for example, of former Parisian Pablo Sarabia (Wolves), Andreas Skov-Olsen (Bruges), Pablo Fornals (West Ham)… but also Marco Asensio! The former Real Madrid player, who arrived in Paris on a free transfer, would be in the sights of the Basque club. He has thus been offered to the La Liga side, which is therefore considering going on the attack for the 27-year-old attacking midfielder.
A strange piece of information at first glance but which can make sense, insofar as Asensio is now seen as a substitute by Luis Enrique since his return from injury which kept him out of action for more than two months. Since his return against Newcastle on November 28, he has played 7 games, starting only one of them, against Revel in the Cup this weekend. A difficult situation for a player who aspires to play the 2024 Euro with his national team. Of course, PSG will have the final say in this case, as the player is under contract until 2026.
