Real Madrid will not sign Jarrad Branthwaite

Jarrad Branthwaite’s hopes of joining Real Madrid have been dashed, with the Spanish giants seemingly having no interest in signing the English defender.

According to Todofichajes, the Real Madrid board never really considered signing the 20-year-old. Despite the insistence of Carlo Ancelotti, who gave him his Premier League debut during his time at Everton, Real Madrid see the deal as too risky.

Branthwaite would take up a non-EU spot. With the arrivals of Vinicius Tobias and Antonio Rüdiger, Real Madrid have no more spots available in this category. And the club is not willing to sacrifice a spot for a player who is still relatively inexperienced.

The transfer fee is too high. Branthwaite is tied to Everton until 2027. The Toffees value him at €50 million. Real Madrid believe this sum is too high for a player who has only played 22 Premier League games in two seasons.

Real Madrid believes that there are better options on the market. David Carmo of Sporting CP and Antonio Silva of Benfica are two Portuguese centre-backs who are considered to be more reliable and cheaper.

Branthwaite will now have to find another club this winter. He could be tempted by an offer from an English club, where he would have more chances of playing.
