Nasser Al-Khelaïfi confirms deal with Kylian Mbappé

In an interview with RMC Sport, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has confirmed that he has reached an agreement with Kylian Mbappé over the player’s future.

“It’s normal that people ask about him,” Al-Khelaïfi said. “For me, he’s the best player in the world. I have a very good relationship with him, not just as a player, but as a person. He has an agreement with me, as he has said. There is no negotiation, but I think he’s still young, he wants to win many trophies, and I hope it’s with us.”

Al-Khelaïfi also confirmed that he knows when Mbappé will make his decision.

“Yes,” he said. “But this is between us. We’ve talked about it. I trust him 200%. He’s a good guy. He gave me his word, and he’s a man of his word. I trust him, he would never do anything to hurt this club. He’s part of the family, and I want to protect him, like I do everyone.”

When asked if he has a plan with Mbappé and a separate plan without him, Al-Khelaïfi was clear.

“I have a plan,” he said. “With Kylian.”

Al-Khelaïfi declined to provide any further details about the agreement between him and Mbappé.

“I don’t want to talk about money or how much the deal is worth,” he said. “It’s a gentleman’s agreement. People talk a lot about Kylian, but we need to leave him alone. There is an agreement, but I’m not going to say what it is. It’s not about money. He has the best training facilities in the world, he has the best coach in the world. He plays in the Champions League every year, and we’re always there, in the quarterfinals, semifinals, the final. We’re there. Ligue 1 has changed a lot, it’s more complicated and more international. Next year, with the new Champions League format, it’s going to be even more competitive.”

Al-Khelaïfi also addressed the issue of a deadline for Mbappé to make his decision.

“That’s between us,” he said. “Is there a deadline? That’s a feeling. There are many important matches coming up, and I want to ask everyone to leave us alone. I trust him, he would never do anything to hurt this club. He’s part of the family, and I want to protect him, like I do everyone.”

Finally, Al-Khelaïfi made some surprising comments about Lionel Messi.

“I want to say one thing,” he said. “He’s the best player in history. It’s not easy for him to come here after spending his whole life in Barcelona. When I arrived, it wasn’t the same. We had Kylian, Neymar. I have a lot of respect for him, but to talk bad about PSG after that is not good, it’s disrespectful. He beat Kylian and the French. You have to respect that, but he’s not a bad guy. For Messi or anyone else, I want people to talk when they’re here, not when they’re gone.”
