Steve Mandanda, who arrived in Brittany in July 2022, has extended his contract with Stade Rennais. The French goalkeeper’s contract is now extended until June 2025. As the number one goalkeeper for SRFC, the former Marseille player remains a safe bet in the league and seems to be in the plans of Florian Maurice, the technical director of Stade Rennais: “With everything he has brought to the field and outside, it seemed logical to continue the adventure. It is important to have a player of this quality and experience in the group. […] He expressed the wish to continue, because he feels good here. Everything was aligned for us to continue together.”
Mandanda has been a key player for Rennes since his arrival, making 27 appearances in Ligue 1 this season. He has kept 10 clean sheets and has conceded just 26 goals. The 38-year-old goalkeeper is still one of the best in the league and his extension is a major boost for Rennes.
Maurice said that Mandanda’s experience and leadership are valuable assets for the team. He also said that the goalkeeper is happy in Rennes and wants to continue playing for the club.
Mandanda’s extension is a sign that Rennes is serious about challenging for the title in Ligue 1. The club has been one of the most consistent teams in the league this season and is currently in third place, just two points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
