Chelsea is planning a player swap to regain Kepa Arrizabalaga from Real Madrid starting in June. There is no option to buy in the Basque’s loan.
Real Madrid is looking to London these days. Not for a possible interest from Chelsea in Carlo Ancelotti’s pupils, but for the decisions being made inside Stamford Bridge to get the best possible deal for Kepa’s future. They are proposing a swap to Valencia that would leave the Basque far from the Bernabéu forever.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is the target of the Blues. The Georgian goalkeeper, who has even been mentioned for Real Madrid in recent times, is the priority of a project that, unless it makes a 180-degree turn, will also have to decide Kepa’s future starting in the summer. On the Mediterranean coast, they are already expecting an offer that, if it is accompanied by money, could mean the end of the former Athletic player for Concha Espina.
“Knowing that Kepa Arrizabalaga will not continue at Real Madrid after his loan, as Lunin has established himself in goal, Chelsea want to include him in the operation for Mamardashvili. This would undoubtedly be an important goalkeeper swap, as we are talking about two goalkeepers of very high level in Europe,” said Gol Digital in an article that has already reached Valdebebas.
No decisions made for goalkeepers
There is only one reality when thinking about July 2024: Thibaut Courtois will again be the Real Madrid’s starting goalkeeper. The Belgian, unless he makes a 180-degree turn in his level thanks to the injury, will remain the first goalkeeper of a team that is focused around him for the coming seasons. Beyond that, there is still time to make decisions.
A decision that is divided between Kepa and Andriy Lunin. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid will make an offer to Chelsea when the Basque’s loan ends for a Santiago Bernabéu where the Ukrainian has taken the advantage in the short term. It is not an easy decision, but in Valencia, they are already waiting for the Basque to see how much money comes from London for Mamardashvili.
