Lyon are looking to strengthen their midfield in the January transfer window, and they have reportedly identified Nemanja Matic as a target.
Matic, 35, is a Serbia international who has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Chelsea, Manchester United, and AS Roma. He is a physical and experienced midfielder who would add a lot of quality to Lyon’s midfield.
Matic joined Rennes from Roma in the summer of 2023, but he has not been a regular starter for the Ligue 1 club. He has made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal.
According to L’Équipe, Matic is keen to leave Rennes and return to England. He is said to be unhappy with the club’s recent results and the fact that his three children are not able to attend an international school in the city.
Lyon are reportedly willing to offer Matic a contract until the end of the season. However, Rennes are determined to keep the midfielder and have offered him a new contract.
The outcome of the transfer saga remains to be seen, but it is clear that Matic would be a valuable addition to Lyon’s squad.
