The Olympique de Marseille (OM) are gearing up for a busy winter transfer window, with the club reportedly targeting Said Benrahma of West Ham United.
OM are currently sixth in Ligue 1, but they are hoping to close the gap on the top three. However, they will be without several key players for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.
As a result, OM are looking to add to their squad in January. Benrahma, a 28-year-old Algerian winger, is one of the players on their radar. He has been linked with a move to Lyon as well, but OM are confident they can beat their rivals to his signature.
Benrahma is under contract with West Ham until 2026, but he is valued at around €22 million. OM could try to negotiate a loan deal, as Benrahma is not guaranteed to play for Algeria at AFCON.
Another option for OM is Suso of Sevilla. The 30-year-old Spanish winger is also available for a transfer, but he is valued at around €5 million. Suso has struggled for form at Sevilla this season, but he could still be a valuable addition to OM’s attack.
In addition to Benrahma and Suso, OM are also reportedly looking at players in Turkey. The club are said to be interested in several players from the Süper Lig, including Galatasaray’s Kerem Aktürkoğlu and Trabzonspor’s Andreas Cornelius.
It remains to be seen how active OM will be in January, but it is clear that they are looking to make some significant signings to improve their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
