Match Preview – Lazio vs Frosinone: Lazio looks to build on Empoli win

Lazio will not finish 2023 in one of the top six European places in Serie A, but they have a chance to record back-to-back league wins for the first time since October when they host struggling Frosinone.

The Romans have kept their hopes alive by picking up results at home in recent times, dropping points only against Roma (draw, 0-0) and Inter Milan (loss, 2-0) in their last six home Serie A matches.

They picked up three points and some much-needed confidence in their away win at Empoli last weekend, but they lost Luis Alberto and Ciro Immobile to injury in the first half. This could force some rotation in the upcoming fixture.

Nine different players have scored Lazio’s 17 goals in Serie A this season (excluding own goals), seven of which have come from Immobile or Alberto. Sarri will be hoping that he has enough candidates ready to step up if the pair are ruled out.

Seven different players have scored Frosinone’s last seven league goals, but the overall form of the team is worrying. The 2-1 home defeat to title contenders Juventus was their fourth consecutive league match without scoring more than once. However, Frosinone remain one of the most prolific members of the bottom half of the table (22 goals).

No team has had a bigger difference between their home and away performances this season than Frosinone. The team have yet to win away from home with two points from eight matches, a far cry from the 17 points they have accumulated at home. The away side have not been disgraced, losing by more than one goal only to teams that started this round in the top six. They could produce another strong performance here, given that Lazio have only won at home by at least two goals once this season in the league.

Players to watch: Matías Vecino has scored 12 of his last 13 goals (for any club) in wins, including nine at home. Marco Brescianini has scored both of his goals this season in away defeats for Frosinone.

Recent form: There have been fewer than 2.5 goals scored in the last four meetings between these two teams.

Prediction: Lazio 2-1 Frosinone
