Real Madrid to meet to discuss defense, Varane ruled out

Real Madrid are set to meet to discuss their defensive options after injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao left them with just two senior center-backs for the rest of the season.

According to Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre, Carlo Ancelotti is keen to strengthen his defense, either by recalling a loanee or signing a new player.

Aguirre also reports that the club has ruled out a move for Raphael Varane, who has been linked with a return to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Varane left Madrid for Manchester United in 2021, but has struggled to find his best form in England. He has made just 18 appearances for the Red Devils this season.

Other center-backs who have been linked with Madrid include Antonio Rüdiger, Pau Torres, and Jules Koundé.

Ancelotti is expected to make a decision on his defensive plans in the coming days.

The injuries to Alaba and Militao are a major blow to Madrid’s title hopes. The team is already thin in defense, and the loss of two of their most experienced players will only make things worse.

Ancelotti is under pressure to find a solution, and he is likely to be looking for a player who can come in and make an immediate impact.

Varane would have been a good option, but his recent form suggests that he is not the answer. Rüdiger, Torres, and Koundé are all more attractive options, but they would also be expensive.

It will be interesting to see what Madrid do, but they need to act quickly to address their defensive problems.
