In a season full of ups and downs for RC Lens, one player has stood out on the pitch, attracting the attention of Premier League scouts and sparking transfer speculation. Kevin Danso, the 25-year-old Austrian international, has been one of the key architects of Lens’ recent success, leading them to the Champions League last season and continuing their excellent form in the current Ligue 1 campaign.
Danso’s performances have not gone unnoticed on the other side of the English Channel, with reports from FootMercato suggesting that two mid-table Premier League teams are very interested in acquiring his services. However, despite this growing interest, Danso seems determined to finish the season with Lens.
The Austrian defender was faced with a crucial decision in the transfer window, with offers from Napoli on the table. Reflecting on the options available to him, Danso revealed that it was a “difficult decision” to make. Despite the lure of a move to Italy, he ultimately chose to stay at the Stade Bollaert, showing commendable loyalty to the club that has become his second home.
Will Lens lose their star player?
While Lens struggled collectively in the first quarter of the current Ligue 1 season, Danso stood out with his individual performances. His ability to marshal the defense and contribute in key moments has played an essential role in Lens’ resurgence.
Given the Premier League interest, Danso’s entourage is said to have received enquiries from two English mid-table clubs. However, the Austrian himself seems inclined to stay put at least until the end of the season. Sources close to the player suggest that he wants to help Lens go as far as possible in European competitions before turning his attention to representing Austria at Euro 2024.
