Barcelona stadium renovation: worker pay slips falsified

It had been a long time since Barcelona FC had been involved in a shady affair. But according to the daily newspaper Sport, three of the Limak subcontracting companies, the main contractor for the renovation of the Camp Nou, are falsifying their employees’ pay slips to evade the labor inspectorate.

Some companies are showing pay increases on the pay slips, but these increases are not actually paid out to the workers. Others, in response to revelations by the Periodico newspaper about the difficult working conditions of the workers, are transferring more money into the accounts of their employees, but not showing it on the pay slips, in an attempt to silence the workers’ complaints. Employers are also putting their employees on technical unemployment in order to save on part of their wages.

An investigation by the labor inspectorate is underway and is expected to report its findings in late January.
