Al-Nassr cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Al-Ettifaq in the 18th round of the Saudi Pro League.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s side remain the closest challengers to Al-Hilal, although they have a game in hand and are already 10 points behind the league leaders.
Against Al-Ettifaq, managed by Steven Gerrard, Al-Nassr immediately took control of the game. Despite enjoying over 60% possession and a clear advantage in chances, the hosts were only rewarded for their good performance in the 43rd minute. Brazilian Alex Telles gave Al-Nassr the lead with a stunning volley (1-0).
In the 59th minute, Marcelo Brozovic doubled the lead. After a pass from CR7, the Croatian made it look easy. Fourteen minutes later, Ronaldo scored a penalty. Al-Ettifaq pulled one back late on.
Ronaldo is now top of the Saudi Pro League scoring charts with 17 goals and 9 assists this season, ahead of Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic (16 goals/Al-Hilal).
Ronaldo has been in fine form since joining Al-Nassr in the summer. He has scored 17 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions, including a hat-trick in the AFC Champions League.
Al-Nassr’s victory keeps them in second place in the league table. They have a chance to close the gap on Al-Hilal when they meet next month.
