Real Sociedad’s coach: “Imagine the bomb it would be if we eliminated PSG”

The Paris Saint-Germain drew the short straw in the Champions League round of 16 draw, being paired with Real Sociedad. But the Spanish club is determined to create a sensation against the Parisians.

Real Sociedad finished top of their Champions League group ahead of Inter Milan and is currently sixth in La Liga. For once, the Parisian club has been lucky in the draw, getting the most affordable team on paper. Kylian Mbappé and his teammates could have just as easily faced Real Madrid, Manchester City, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, or Atlético Madrid.

Now, PSG must confirm on the field that this draw is good by securing a win against Real Sociedad, first at the Parc des Princes and then in the heated atmosphere of San Sebastián. What is certain is that the Spanish club will play their chances to the fullest.

In front of the press, Real Sociedad coach Imanol Alguacil expressed his intention to make a strong impression by creating a surprise against Luis Enrique’s team.

“I feel happy and motivated, because if you want to reach the final, you have to face the best teams and PSG is a serious candidate to reach the final. That’s their main goal. You can imagine what it means to face such a team, with a coach I respect very much (Luis Enrique). He knows us very well, but we know him too. We couldn’t do better,” the Real Sociedad coach said before slipping in a little punchline.

“Imagine the bomb it would be if we eliminated them… For now, I think it’s a great team and one of the candidates for the final, but if we can continue to play at the same level that we have done so far in the Champions League…,” the Real Sociedad coach said, for whom nothing is impossible. Including being the underdog of the competition and toppling the Paris Saint-Germain of Kylian Mbappé and Luis Enrique? The answer will be known in February.
