Sevilla FC: Diego Alonso sacked after just two months

Diego Alonso has been sacked as manager of Sevilla FC just two months after his appointment. The Uruguayan coach was dismissed following a 3-0 home defeat to Getafe on Saturday.

Alonso took over at Sevilla in October, replacing José Luis Mendilibar. However, he was unable to turn around the club’s fortunes, which have been in decline since winning the Europa League in 2021-22.

Sevilla finished bottom of their Champions League group and are currently 16th in La Liga. They have only won two of their last 13 league games.

In a statement, Sevilla said: “Sevilla FC announces the dismissal of Diego Alonso as head coach. The club thanks the Uruguayan coach for his services and wishes him all the best in the future.”

Alonso’s sacking is a major blow for Sevilla, who are now looking for their third manager of the season. The club have already had two interim coaches in Julen Lopetegui and Julen Lopetegui.

It remains to be seen who will replace Alonso. However, Sevilla will be looking for a coach who can turn around their fortunes and get the club back to challenging for trophies.
