Football legend Lionel Messi has partnered with Royal Caribbean International to promote its newest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas.
Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and 2023 TIME Athlete of the Year, will attend the Icon of the Seas’ christening ceremony in Miami in January 2024. He will also serve as the ship’s ambassador, appearing in advertising and promotions.
Icon of the Seas is the flagship of Royal Caribbean International’s new Icon class. It promises a unique cruise experience, with six water slides, seven pools, a family-friendly district, and more than 40 ways to dine and be entertained.
“Lionel Messi is a global icon of excellence and passion,” said Michael Bayley, CEO of Royal Caribbean International. “He is the perfect representation of our new ship, Icon of the Seas, which offers an unparalleled cruise experience.”
Messi has been a fan of cruising for many years. He has previously traveled on Royal Caribbean ships with his family.
“I am thrilled to partner with Royal Caribbean International,” said Messi. “Icon of the Seas is an incredible ship and I am excited to share this experience with the world.”
Icon of the Seas will depart Miami on January 27, 2024 for its inaugural voyage. It will cruise the eastern and western Caribbean.
