The latest statements from Brazilian forward Rodrygo at Real Madrid have been somewhat critical of Carlo Ancelotti’s new system, in which Rodrygo plays in a position very similar to that of a center forward. Essentially, he made it clear that he doesn’t like playing in that position and prefers to play on one of the wings.
On El Chiringuito, they were analyzing Rodrygo’s words and his low level of performance at the start of this season when Edu Aguirre came to his defense: “We have to understand Rodrygo. He has given us a Champions League. Now it’s easy to bash Rodrygo. He was overlooked, everyone wanted Asensio to play ahead of him, and he proved them wrong. No one has the right to criticize him. He made a mistake with his words, and people are taking advantage of that to bash him.”
Josep Pedrerol didn’t hesitate to draw a comparison with what was said about Kylian Mbappé when he leaked and publicly stated that he didn’t like playing as a center forward: “When Mbappé said it, we criticized him, so why not criticize Rodrygo?”
“Because Mbappé is Mbappé… And we’ve already done that segment,” responded the journalist, who continued to defend Rodrygo and clarify his words. He assured that the player’s criticism was not directed towards Carlo Ancelotti but towards his system of play.
Silencing the critics
The Madrid forward is eager to prove himself and show that he has the necessary level to succeed at Real Madrid. He has already demonstrated this in the past when he played a crucial role in the club’s last Champions League victory. However, at the best team in the world, there is always a short memory.
The demands of Real Madrid lead to the expectation of consistent performance from all their players, and that is why Rodrygo is receiving so much criticism during this slight dip in form over the past few weeks. The club has full confidence that he will bounce back and become a decisive player for the team once again.
