Rennes Secures Promising Replacement for Lovro Majer

Rennes, the French football club, has successfully found a worthy successor to Lovro Majer in their midfield. Following Majer’s departure this summer for a staggering 35 million euros, Rennes has turned to Switzerland to secure their new midfield gem.

The ongoing transfer window has been quite eventful for Rennes, with numerous arrivals and departures reshaping the team. Initially, the Breton club welcomed Enzo Le Fée and Ludovic Blas, but soon after, significant sales took place. Lesley Ugochukwu’s transfer to Chelsea brought in 27 million euros, while Jérémy Doku signed with Manchester City for nearly 65 million euros. Additionally, Lovro Majer’s departure to Germany fetched over 35 million euros.

Naturally, such significant losses in the midfield needed to be compensated. In a recent press conference, Bruno Genesio, Rennes’ coach, expressed the club’s intention to bring in another player, possibly in the midfield, even if no departures were planned. True to their words, Rennes has been actively seeking a new midfielder during the final stages of the transfer window. FootMercato  reveals that the successor to Lovro Majer is none other than Fabian Rieder, a player from BSC Young Boys.

Hailing from Switzerland, Rieder, a 21-year-old prodigy, has emerged as the top priority for Rennes’ management. Discussions between the two parties have already commenced, indicating the seriousness of Rennes’ pursuit. Rieder is widely regarded as one of Switzerland’s most promising talents and played a crucial role for his team last season. With 43 appearances, 9 goals, and 11 assists to his name, Rieder has proven his worth on the field.

This summer, Rieder even had the opportunity to face the French national team during the Under-21 European Championship. To his surprise, he found his name on the Swiss squad list for the 2022 World Cup, marking his debut as an international player with four appearances. Joining Rennes and the highly competitive Ligue 1 would undoubtedly provide Rieder with the perfect platform to continue his impressive development. Rennes, in turn, would secure a significant coup in strengthening their midfield.

Rieder’s versatility in the midfield, coupled with his impressive statistics and international recognition, make him an ideal candidate to fill the void left by Majer. Rennes’ pursuit of Rieder reflects their ambition to maintain their competitive edge and further solidify their position in the league.

Rennes’ search for a suitable replacement for Lovro Majer has led them to Fabian Rieder, a promising talent from Switzerland. With negotiations underway, Rennes aims to secure the young midfielder’s services and bolster their midfield options. Should the deal materialize, Rennes would not only gain a talented player but also continue their tradition of nurturing and developing promising young talents.
