Karl Toko-Ekambi leaves OL to join Abha FC

Lyon has finally reached an agreement with Karl Toko-Ekambi for his departure from the club. The Cameroonian international, who recently returned from a loan spell at Rennes without a purchase option, has been negotiating the terms of his exit for a significant part of the summer. After intense discussions, both the Rhone-based club and Toko-Ekambi have now settled on the conditions for his transfer.

Toko-Ekambi’s destination is set to be Abha FC, the Saudi Arabian club managed by François Kamano. According FootMercato, Abha FC will pay Lyon a transfer fee of €1.5 million, with an additional €0.5 million in bonuses, to secure the services of the former Villarreal striker. The official announcement of this operation is imminent.

The departure of Karl Toko-Ekambi will not only provide a boost to Lyon’s wage bill but also open up opportunities for the club to finalize the signing of new recruits. The funds generated from this transfer will contribute to the financial stability of the club, allowing them to pursue their desired targets. Lyon is reportedly in the market for a left-sided attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder, and the departure of Toko-Ekambi will surely facilitate their pursuit of these positions.

It is worth noting that Toko-Ekambi’s name had been linked with several other clubs during the transfer window, including Fenerbahce, Celta Vigo, and various clubs in the Middle East. However, Lyon’s negotiation skills and agreement with Abha FC have ultimately secured the departure of the talented forward.

With Toko-Ekambi’s departure on the horizon, Lyon’s attention now turns to Tino Kadewere, who is also rumored to be leaving the club. The Zimbabwean striker has been linked with a move to Montpellier, and his potential departure will further shape Lyon’s transfer strategy and financial plans.

Karl Toko-Ekambi’s departure from Lyon marks the end of a protracted saga and represents a strategic move for the club. Lyon’s agreement with Abha FC not only provides financial relief but also paves the way for potential new signings. As Lyon fans eagerly await the official confirmation of this transfer, all eyes are now on the future and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for the club.
